5086 aluminum is a non-heat-treatable aluminum alloy strengthened through cold working. It offers moderate strength and excellent resistance to seawater corrosion. Because of these properties, it is widely used in the shipbuilding industry. The main alloying element of 5086 aluminum is magnesium, with a small addition of manganese. This composition gives the alloy strong rust resistance, especially in near-shore and marine environments. Known internationally as AlMg4.5Mn, 5086 aluminum combines lightweight performance with good ductility, making it well suited for ship structures and hull construction.
