The 5059 aluminum sheet is a premium 5000 series Al-Mg (aluminum-magnesium) alloy designed for demanding structural applications. Magnesium is the primary alloying element, which gives the material excellent strength and corrosion resistance.
The 5059 aluminum alloy cannot be strengthened by heat treatment. Instead, its mechanical performance is improved through cold working (strain hardening). Compared with traditional 5083 alloy, 5059 offers higher strength and better resistance to harsh environments, making it a preferred material for advanced engineering fields.
5059 aluminum delivers excellent mechanical strength.
Its tensile strength can reach 370–440 MPa (H116 / H321 tempers).
It performs better than standard 5083 alloy and even rivals some low-carbon steels, while remaining much lighter.
Thanks to its high magnesium content, 5059 aluminum sheet shows strong resistance to corrosion.
It performs especially well in seawater and marine atmospheres.
It also offers:
Excellent resistance to exfoliation corrosion
Strong resistance to stress corrosion cracking
This makes it ideal for long-term use in harsh environments.
5059 aluminum plate supports multiple welding methods, including:
MIG welding
TIG welding
Friction stir welding (FSW)
After welding, the material maintains a high level of strength and structural integrity, which is critical for large-scale engineering projects.
The density of 5059 aluminum is about 2.66 g/cm³, much lower than steel.
This provides a high strength-to-weight ratio, helping reduce overall structural weight without sacrificing performance. It is especially useful in transportation and marine design.
The 5059 aluminum alloy performs reliably under dynamic loads and vibration conditions.
It maintains stable performance over time, making it suitable for structures exposed to repeated stress, such as ships and transport equipment.
