The 5A06 aluminum plate & sheet belongs to the aluminum-magnesium (Al–Mg) alloy family in the 5000 series. This alloy contains a relatively high percentage of magnesium, which provides an excellent balance of strength, corrosion resistance, and weldability. Unlike heat-treatable aluminum alloys, 5A06 aluminum plate & sheet gains its strength primarily through cold working and strain hardening rather than heat treatment.
Given its exceptional corrosion resistance and dependable mechanical properties, this alloy finds extensive application in challenging industrial settings. It is especially suitable for applications where welded structures, durability, and long-term exposure to moisture or marine conditions are critical.
With its high magnesium content, 5A06 aluminum sheet offers higher strength than many conventional aluminum alloys. The material also demonstrates excellent fatigue resistance, allowing it to perform reliably in dynamic or load-bearing structures.
As a typical rust-resistant alloy in the 5000 series, 5A06 aluminum sheet performs exceptionally well in humid, marine, and chemically aggressive environments,
which are conditions that can cause corrosion. This makes it a preferred material for shipbuilding and offshore equipment.
The alloy exhibits very good welding performance using common welding methods such as gas welding and spot welding. Welded joints typically retain about 90–95% of the base metal strength, ensuring strong and reliable structural integrity.
5A06 aluminum sheet maintains good plasticity in the annealed and extruded states, making it suitable for cold forming, rolling, and bending operations without compromising structural performance.

Tensile Strength: approximately 305 MPa
Yield Strength: approximately 145 MPa
Elongation: around 12%
Brinell Hardness: about 90 HB
These mechanical properties provide an ideal balance between strength, ductility, and durability for structural and industrial applications.
Thanks to its combination of strength, corrosion resistance, and weldability, 5A06 aluminum sheet is widely used in various industries, including:
Shipbuilding and marine structures
Aircraft skins and welded aerospace components
Fuel tanks and oil pipelines
Automotive structural parts
Pressure vessels and storage tanks
Transportation equipment and railway systems
Industrial welded structures
Its excellent performance in marine and high-humidity environments makes 5A06 aluminum sheet particularly suitable for manufacturing ship hull components, marine equipment, and other corrosion-resistant structures.
