5052 H34 aluminum sheet is a strain-hardened, non-heat-treatable aluminum-magnesium alloy designed for applications that require a balanced combination of strength and workability. As part of the 5000 series, this alloy derives its performance primarily from magnesium, with approximately 2.5% Mg and a controlled addition of about 0.25% chromium to improve corrosion resistance and structural stability.
Unlike heat-treatable alloys, the 5052 H34 aluminum sheet gains its mechanical properties through cold working. The H34 temper indicates that the material has been strain-hardened to a semi-rigid condition and then stabilized to reduce internal stress while maintaining enhanced strength. After processing, it is rolled to precise thicknesses and typically supplied in sheet or coil form to meet industrial manufacturing requirements.
One of the defining features of the 5052 H34 aluminum sheet is its excellent balance between strength and formability. Compared with fully annealed tempers, H34 offers higher tensile strength while still retaining good ductility, making it suitable for components that must endure bending, stamping, or moderate forming operations without cracking.
When selecting 5052 H34 aluminum sheet for industrial fabrication, manufacturers typically focus on durability, structural strength, and long-term stability. The H34 temper offers a well-balanced mechanical profile, making it suitable for applications where both corrosion resistance and forming capability are required.
The corrosion resistance of 5052 H34 aluminum sheet is primarily attributed to its magnesium-rich composition, with chromium added to enhance structural stability. This alloy naturally forms a protective oxide layer, and with appropriate surface treatment, its resistance to environmental attack can be further improved.
Because of this protective behavior, the material performs reliably in:
For components that remain exposed to seawater or aggressive atmospheres over extended service periods, 5052 H34 aluminum sheet provides dependable anti-corrosion performance without requiring complex protective systems.
In the H34 temper, the alloy is strain-hardened and stabilized to a semi-hard condition. Its mechanical properties fall between the fully annealed (O) temper and harder tempers, offering improved strength while retaining workable ductility.
